There are four holes in the top plate. The two middles ones are countersunk on the BOTTOM of the plate. Screw gland into top side of top plate (the side that does not have the countersinks) and fully tighten. If you find it difficult to tighten the gland it might help to wrap an elastic band around it for grip. This operation is best done with the plate upside down so that you can make sure that the O ring does not become pinched or fall out of the groove in the gland.
